As I’ve taken you through the process this month of working to align your priorities with how you actually spend your time, I’ve not so subtly encouraged you to make one of your HIGH priorities the thing that you want more of in your life.
It’s incredible how often we pine for more free time, more time with our families, more time to travel, more time to work on a beloved hobby, more time to read, more time to rest, yet we never schedule those things into our lives.
This cycle leaves us feeling constantly dissatisfied. It leads to the belief that our current lives are somehow deficient and that we just need to reach the next benchmark so we can finally have time for the things we want.
That’s BULLSHIT!
The way you have more time for what you want is that you make time for it. You do it now. Does that mean that you might need to give something up to free up space in your schedule? Maybe, but I’ve got news for you. There is no perfect time to create the life you want. There is only right now.
I work in the emergency department. If there’s one thing that has taught me it’s that the future is not guaranteed. If you want your life to have more of something, find a way to make the time for it today. Stop telling yourself that you just need more money, less responsibilities, someone’s permission.
The only person who can create this for you is you.
Now your brain is probably going to give you a bunch of reasons why this isn’t possible. This is because our brains are programmed to believe certain things. I’ve got news for you. Those beliefs are optional.
Think of someone who has the life of your dreams. Now take a moment and write down the top three thoughts that you have about that person.
Do you believe that they’re lucky? Do you believe that they’re selfish? Do you believe that they’re courageous? Do you judge them and the choices you believe they may or may not have made to have that life?
Do you believe that it’s possible for you to have the same life?
Now to be clear, you don’t actually want that person’s life. You don’t really know that much about their life. What you want is your idea of their life and that is something that you absolutely can create for yourself. You just have to let go of the beliefs that are holding you back.
